How to Store Nuts Correctly

Chestnuts

Chestnuts have a relatively high water content (50%) and should be kept in the fridge to prevent them from drying out. Nuts in the shell may be stored in the fridge for 3 to 4 weeks; keep them in a perforated or loosely closed bag to allow small amounts of air to circulate around them to prevent them from becoming damp.

Shelled or cooked chestnuts may be stored in the fridge for up to a week, or in the freezer for about 8 months. Candied nuts will keep in a cool, dry place for up to 6 months, whilst chestnut purée will keep for up to 2 years. However, once the purée is opened, it should be stored in the fridge and eaten within 4 days.
